Kim Jaxon

Kim Jaxon is an associate professor of English (Composition & Literacy) at California State University, Chico. Her research interests focus on theories of literacy, particularly digital literacies, participation, educational designs, and teacher education. She is a featured contributor for the Connected Learning Alliance where she blogs about teaching, especially teaching in digitally mediated ways. Kim was awarded the Teacher of Excellence-College Award by the California Association of Teachers of English in 2014. She co-authored the book Composing Science: A Facilitator’s Guide to Writing in the Science Classroom (TCPress 2016), which is the culmination of a three-year, NSF funded project focused on the teaching and learning of writing in science.

Kim is also the current Director of the Northern California Writing Project (NCWP), a site of the National Writing Project. Working with teachers across all grade levels and contexts, the NCWP is committed to supporting students and teachers as they use writing to be heard, to make change, and to expand what counts as writing and whose writing counts. More recently, Kim has worked to support local teachers who are impacted by the Camp Fire in northern California. With colleagues, they created Color a Classroom, which matches teachers to people who can support their long term recovery. Kim’s students, future teachers at Chico State, are documenting and sharing the stories of impacted teachers on the Color a Classroom site.
