Connecting and Equipping Refugees to Tertiary Education

This hands on workshop will introduce participants to the major challenges and opportunities that refugees in Malaysia face when it comes to accessing higher education. After being fully briefed on the current situation and the stakeholders involved in trying to make tertiary education available to refugees in the country, participants will be given details on the CERTE Bridge Course and guided in developing solutions to key questions that remain in the delivery of the course. The course has been developed by volunteers and universities in the country with support form the Opening Universities for Refugees (OUR), local non-profits, refugee community learning centers and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Malaysia. Participants will be asked to consider in their design recommendation the role that technology can play in improving the CERTE course. Participants recommendations will be shared with stakeholders implementing the CERTE bridge course in Malaysia and used to kick-start a CERTE Bridge course 2.0 planning process in the country.
