Capturing Voice and Providing Choice: Hands on with Audio Storytelling
July 27, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm UTC+0
Abstract / Synopsis:Participants will engage in a hands-on audio storytelling workshop. They will leave with examples of their own story example and a collection of stories from the group. Participants will also be given a ready to go Google Slide deck and instructional videos that they can use with their classrooms or libraries to run a similar workshop.
San Francisco Unified School District offered a semester-long blended learning course for educators titled “Toward a Culturally Responsive Multimedia Digital Portfolio.” In the course, teachers were invited to make media – collages, multimedia stories – and publish them to a portfolio and reflect on what they made, learned and what would make it back into their classroom.
The workshop will focus on one audio storytelling session from the course weaving in KQED Youth Media Challenges with the Soundtrap podcasting tool. The workshop will also give an overview of the larger context of building multimedia portfolios with an eye toward cultural responsiveness.
Come to this workshop ready to create and share your stories.
