Can a Game Teach Calculus?

Many of our students struggle with calculus yet is required for all STEM degree and many non-STEM degrees. To help our students succeed in calculus we developed a 3D adventure game. After several semesters of testing and a different approach of implementing the game in the classroom we now have the first results. In this talk I will share the results of our study and different implementation strategies. I will further talk about the game design that we believe contributes to the students learning and discuss challenges and upcoming work to further research the validity of our approach, of using game-based learning to enhance students mastery of calculus.
