Build Your Own Open-Source Learning Network

July 26, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm UTC+0

In this workshop, participants will learn how to transform their learning community into an Open-Source Learning Network. This can be done formally, within the context of existing courses, departments, and institutions, or informally, via connected agreements between individuals and groups that transcend organizational and geographical boundaries. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to lead an Open-Source Learning network in connection with any academic course, book/study group, organization, family, or personal course of exploration. In the first half of the workshop, participants will learn and practice the online and offline principles and practices of effective Open-Source Learning Networks, including: establishing trust, shared purpose, vision, and values; facilitating restorative dialogues that address previous experiences of shared learning; empowering learners to see formal curricula through the lens of an interdisciplinary Big Question that they explore as full-fledged members of a network; using knowledge about the form and function of the internet to curate learning online and develop communities of support and critique; and going beyond grades to apply what we know about cognition and technology to evaluate individual and network effects. In the second half of the workshop, participants will actively collaborate to transform the workshop itself into an Open-Source Learning Network that will create real-time value throughout the Connected Learning Summit and beyond.
